Isaiah The Prophet
Last night in class we were talking about the Prophet Isaiah. He is an interesting fellow when you hear more about his life and historical data. One of the things that I found interesting is the fact that the book is sometimes considered "a miniature bible." Our Bible has 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. Isaiah can be broken down into two sections. The first Chapters of Isaiah (1-39) reflect the judgment of God on his rebellious people. The second section is comprised of (40-66) which total 27 chapters. These chapters help the children of Israel to have hope even in a time of judgment. 39 books and 39 chapter as well as 27 books and 27 chapters. The Old Testament reflects a time without the Messiah, while the New Testament shows us the Good news of God's Mercy through the death and resurrection of His son. Many (if not all) of the Messianic Chapters in Isaiah happen in the second half of the book. Judgment without God! Mercy with God! They show that God does not tolerate sin, but has given us a way out at the same time. All we have to do is accept Him as our Lord "and he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Some people might think that this seems "cheap" or as "a license to sin" but in reality it isn't cheap. Christ gave his life for us and making Him Lord of your life means that a person is willing to do his/her best to accomplish Christ's will for his/her life. This is definitely not always the easy thing to do.
